Otis is a lovey name as long as your last name doesn't begin with S. I've never seen it as Ottis before

I would spell it with one “T”, but no, I don’t think it’s a bad name. I think it’s a good one for baby or adult. 
With two “T”’s I read it like you would say Otter, but with -is.

Certainly reminds me of a dogs name, but many people name their animals and dogs the same. I have a dog named Enzo, and that's a name I've seen on many humans lol.
