Are relationships supposed to be hard work?

I hear so often that relationships are hard work and you really have to fight for each other to be together. I know every relationship is very different but are curious if there are many other couples who don't fight/argue and find being together long term easy?

you dont have to fight and argue for it to be hard work. but relationships, the long term and meaningful ones, are absolutely hard work... you dont just fall in love and thats it, everything is perfect. you have to learn to live together and compromise and communicate. and with the both of you ever changing and growing, you have to relearn those things all the time. nevermind if hardships hit or life changing circumstances happen. but when you find that someone that is easy to meld with, it is well worth it.

All of my relationships that were wrong for me were hard!  Lol!  
I’ve been with my husband five years, we’ve never yelled at each other, swore at each other and we’ve been through enough in five years that would tear a lot of other people apart.  We’ve had lost jobs, injuries, we’ve built a house together, moved several times, lived well and lived on macaroni for months haha!  Not one part of it has been hard though.  When crazy things happen we just figure it out quickly and always know that wherever we end up it’s going to be together and we’re going to support each other through it.  Respect, communication and compromise are absolutely key to a successful relationship.  There are days when one of us is having a bad day and the other just picks up the slack to make it easier on the other!  Sometimes if we’re both having a bad day, I’ll just say okay you get today and I’ll pick you up today, but you have to do it tomorrow haha!

Not exactly hard like it's a struggle to stay together . I think it means more like when things get tough it's easy to just break up rather than fighting to stay with the person.

We’ve been together 10 years. My husband seems to be going through a midlife blip right now, that he’s getting some help for, and it’s causes drama I’m not used to over the last couple of weeks. That being said, we’ve really had it easy for 10 years. 3 kids. Great careers. Amazing sex life. Some arguments, but mostly just discussions and nothing too bad. No real issues. It’s never felt like work to be with my husband.

I’m confident he will get through whatever he’s going through right now because he’s asking for help and he’s a great man. We are having our monthly date night tonight and I’m pretty excited about it. Can’t wait actually

We don't fight much at all, maybe twice in the two years we've been married. But it takes other kinds of work to really keep up with each other, especially since I've been pregnant nearly the whole time we've been married. Lol 3 kids in 2 years will try any relationship.
