Where did you install baby's car seat? Please comment why :)

My husbands father is a highway patrolman. He told us (and I'm not sure if this is everywhere or just our state), in the majority of crashes, babies who were in the middle were less likely to be harmed. Babies on the sides usually had scratches or bumps. So we plan on putting our baby in the middle.

The least protected child should be in the middle of the vehicle, so if you have one baby- the middle is the best choice, provided you can install the seat safely in that position (some cars don’t allow it or have a bump in the middle of the seat that makes it unstable). In my case, I have three kids- one in a rear facing seat, one forward facing, and one booster. The booster seat goes in the center because he is the “least protected”, then the forward facing on the drivers side and the rear facing on the passenger side. In a crash, a rear facing child will be safer in any position of the car than a forward facing child or a child in a booster.

Middle seat is safest, but if that isn’t an option behind the driver is second best. In the event the driver is able to see the impending crash, instinct is to turn away from it, which leads to a passenger side impact. Of course this doesnt help when the driver cant foresee the crash or in other circumstances.

With my first he was in the middle. This baby will be behind the drivers side because my car is too small to fit my older sons car seat behind the passenger seat and a seat in the middle. I've heard it's recommended they be on the passenger side but I need to be able to look back and see my 2 year old to make sure he isn't unbuckling himself or getting into anything he shouldn't be which I wouldn't be able to do if he was behind me.

I have captain seats in my suburban. So the middle seat isn't a option, unless I put my baby in the 3rd row seat. Which I rather not do.

The middle is the safest place to install a car seat. I have two kids now who are in car seats so I had to put one on the right and one on the left rear passenger seat.

We had to put it behind the passenger side. We wanted to put it in the middle but it didn’t fit :/ and if it were behind the drivers side then my husband couldn’t drive because the seat has to be up so far for it to fit.
