how do you deal with rude comments

a bit of a rant. so my husband and i are 13wk+1 with our first and im feeling much better lately except i keep thinking about the bizarre comments from his family.

quick background: weve been married for over a year, went through one miscarriage early this summer that his family doesnt know about, and are thrilled to be having a baby. im 35 and the oldest in my family and baby will be my parents first grandchild and they are beyond thrilled. my husband and i work hard, were beyond financially stable and we own our home. the ducks have been in a row for a decade now.

his father, right in front of me when we announced, asked my husband “ok well how do you feel about it”. my husband who later said how weird of a comment that was, just stared at him and gave him a thumbs up. later, his sister said the same thing!?! like, his broke sister who has 2 she cant afford and didnt even have health insurance for her baby for the first 3 months and the baby was born w enlarged kidneys and an eye infection she let fester. yeah, she should talk.

anyway, then i sent an ultrasound video to both our families bc you could see the baby kicking like crazy and i captioned it “future kickboxer”. im a martial arts instructor so it was just funny. 5 days later, my FIL replies “lets hope it will be a professional like a doctor or professor. but im just hoping for a healthy baby”. my husband is a mechanic. even he took offense to this.

he says hes just an idiot and im not going to be texting him any updates again, but i dont want to hate my husbands family for being socially inept. this is their 8th grandchild and i just feel like theyre numb to the excitement.
