Reality check for parents

Leigh Ann • Just a girl trying to figure out the world :)

FIRST OFF, I know this isn't the group to post this in but it's one of the more popular ones and I want this to be seen.

Listen, I don't want this to sound offensive to anyone but I'm just going to be real with everyone here. Teenagers smoke weed. Parents, I know you don't approve over half of the things we do but by reprimanding and threatening us to not do those things makes us turn around and do them. Smoking weed, drinking, vaping, having sex, etc... those are all things a lot of teenagers do nowadays so it's kind of become the "norm" in our society. By yelling at us and making us feel bad about those things doesn't make anything better, in fact, it makes it 10 times worse because what are teens notorious for? Rebellion. We will sometimes do whatever it takes just to get our way (depending on the person) and if thy means sneaking around behind our parents backs, that isn't a big deal to us. Personally, if I were a parent and I found out my kid was smoking weed and doing a bunch of other things, I wouldn't be mad, instead take the time to talk to them about it because a lot of the time, parents don't even know what goes on in their child's life. I for one am not a huge weed smoker or drinker but will do it on occasion. However, I don't think that's necessarily bad. I'm not hurting anyone by doing it and I'm not getting so faded that I'm hurting myself or am unaware of what's going on around me. This is just a friendly reminder to everyone that just because you take part in certain activities doesn't make you a bad person and parents, you need to stop accusing us and making us feel like shit for doing some of the things we do because lets face it, teens will be teens. You should know, you were like us once too.
