Antibacterial soap is a NO?! SHIT!

Ok so I Just read an article that antibacterial hand soap is a huge no-no during pregnancy! I’ve been using it since day one, since it’s the type of soap I use at home and my school uses! What in the hell. If this is so important, why wouldn’t the doc say something? Or are other people just being paranoid? Thoughts on this topic?

I've never heard such a thing, I would imagine it's just other people being paranoid. They have antibacterial soap and gels in hospitals which patients and visitors are encouraged to use, I'm sure they wouldn't have it if it wasn't safe

I have 3 kids going on 4 and have never heard that. All soap is actually antibacterial, that's the point of soap, they just put "antibacterial" on some labels for marketing purposes.

First the medical industrial complex doesn’t necessarily have the public’s best interests at heart. Manufacturers of antibacterial products and hospital administrations are all about the bottom line. 
Medical and care facilities (retirement homes, daycares) and schools use antibacterial and anti microbial products in order to limit the numbers and transmission of disease causing microorganisms in inherently unclean environments.
The argument against home use of antibacterial products is that like our guts, mouths and vaginas, our skin has a microbiome that protects us and keeps our skin healthy. Also antibacterial products kill 99.9 % of germs but the assertion is that the .01% that lives will become hyper resilient and resistant which could cause untreatable infectious diseases.
You have a choice whether or not you want to use these products at home. Obviously if you are in an environment in which these products are mandatory, I wouldn’t sweat it too much.
I’d like to point out that there are industrial strength bactericide and disinfectants that can cause birth defects so read labels carefully at work and consider a MSDS search of the products used. That being said, the first trimester is the most vulnerable to environmental toxicity so if you’re past that, any damage that could be done is probably done. Definitely don’t use anything at work that may cause birth defects but don’t panic either.

Never heard of it. I'm sure baby is fine because it'd be more well heard of if it was an issue like deli meats, caffeine, alcohol, smoking etc
