First trimester testing..?

Hey ladies, at my 8 week appointment my Dr advised I do one of 3 tests, she suggested the 1st trimester test that's 90% accurate but also has the chance for the false positive for downs. This is all super new to me and I was wondering if anyone else has had it? I just turned 23 and am not a high risk pregnancy but I told her sure I'll do it, and now I'm wondering if my insurance even covers it? (I'm in the US and had to get Medicaid since my blue cross doesn't cover maternity)That was never mentioned/I forgot to ask😐🤦🏻‍♀️

We have 2 kids and are pregnant with our 3rd (4th pregnancy though), I have always chosen not to do the testing. Honestly, even if we tested positive for Downs, we wouldn't do anything to end our pregnancy. So, it never seemed worth it to me. I've worked with special needs families for years. I can't imagine loving a baby with Downs any less than my typical babies. I know that isn't the case for every family. Downs is a lot to take on. But I guess it depends on what you would do if you got a positive test. If you would definitely terminate, then the test would be more worthwhile to you.

Hey I just called send was told it's covered by Medicaid - but I'm also being seen ane having it done at the High Risk Pregnancy Center so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

My insurance doesn't cover it. I've also turned it down because whatever the results are wouldn't impact my decision to have the baby and if something did show up I would just stress out about it. And like you said, they aren't 100% accurate. They are nice if you want to know the sex early, though! I know a few people who have done it just for that.

I've never done it. My doctor isn't real pushy about it. I did have a friend who did the test and poor family was struggling to deal with their baby having issues when born. But in the end she was perfectly normal and there was zero wrong with her. Just a lot of worry and stress on their family.

Yes I have B.C.B.S. of Texas and they probably won't cover the Maternity21 testing. Out of pocket price was only $345 though since I made a call to the company that does the testing. They seem willing to make deals based on income and weather or not your insurance will cover it. Try giving them a call.

It wasn't covered through my private insurance last baby. I believe Medicaid will only cover if there is history of the defects in the family, I could be wrong though.  Nothing a phone call can't clear up though! I didn't do it last time but am this time simply because I'm high risk and id rather be prepared than surprised.

My dr said that it's usually covered by insurance but that it would be best to call our insurance company just to make sure.
