are Rottweilers good with children?

Question

My uncle found 2 Rottweiler pups behind a trash can down his street and has had them for about a week. He’s taking them to the no kill shelter tomorrow if no one claims them. I LOVE Rottweilers and am seriously considering keeping if not both at least one but not sure being that we have kids. 5 year old and a 5 month old.. are they good with children as they grow? With all these stories about kids getting mauled by dogs I’m very skeptical about it :(

If they're treated right and have the right temperament then I think they're amazing family dogs. Any dog, no matter how big or small can turn nasty if not treated correctly. My dad had a Rottweiler when I was a kid and he was huge, all he ever wanted was cuddles. He would sit there pawing at us until we stroked him or cuddled with him. He was amazing, he got cancer at 4 years old and was taken far too soon but he was the soppiest, most loving dog I have ever known.

Our rottie was one of the best dogs, she absolutely loved my brother and i and would stand or walk infront of us to protect us all the time. Especially if they are puppies then you should have no problems because they will be raised around your kids. You just need to teach both your kids and the dogs how to act.

It's mostly dependent on how you treat and raise them. Any dog, no matter how big or small, can attack/hurt a child or adult. My dad owned a rottweiler and he was just a big teddy bear. He was mistreated and neglected by his first set of owners and my dad took him in, it just takes a responsible and patient owner for any dog to be a good dog. My dads Rottweiler was very protective over all of the kids too.

Honestly, Rotties are like the sweetest dogs ever, and all of the ones I have owned have been great with babies and children. Our dog Rascal used to follow my baby brother around to make sure he was all right, and he would let him crawl all over him. He's like a big mama dog >w<

As with any dog, it's all in the owner. All dogs must be raised with love and discipline,
I would, however, read up on their general temperament and ease of care.
And also to really think about of you will have the time to house train and care for a puppy. It will be bringing in another baby who also needs lots of attention.

I'd say test how they are around your children and if you see they have a good nature then why not as long as a dog is brought up right it should have no reason to attack unless provoked
