Registry

Has anyone created a registry, have a baby shower, and showered with beautiful gifts that were not on your registry? I’m super blessed and grateful for everything but I took the time to create an amazon, babies r us, AND target registries and there were only 7 items purchased between all 3. No bottles, breast milk storage bags, pacifier, burp cloths, diaper rash cream, diaper bag, none of that. Maybe I’m just hormonal right now. I’m not mad because I got some really nice things just a bit let down I guess.

I’ve done a registry and am happy to receive bits from it and for people to use their own judgement. The only annoying thing is I can’t buy anything until after the shower in case I double up! 😝 the thing to remember is people want to buy cute gifts or things that look impressive. I wouldn’t want to buy the nappy rash cream etc but a cute little outfit or blanket! That’s a winner.

Be glad. I have 3 registries, I'm then only one who has bought anything, aside from my MIL who bought our crib. We've done it all ourselves. My father, step mom, step sister, their family, my grandma, no one on my moms side has even reached out to see if we need anything. My mom is coming for the birth so I know she will get things here and there, such as last minute things that we forgot or didn't know we needed. We had a baby knowing we chose to have her and didn't expect anything from anyone so we wouldn't be let down...

Luckily people pretty much stuck to my registry. I'm lucky to be a nurse and have co workers who know that cute isn't always the best so I definitely have the nipple cream and other not so fun items purchased by them. Hard part is getting people to buy cloth diapers. I will purchase those obviously if no one else does. You can always return gifts and use the money for what you need.

I don't expect anyone to buy anything for me apart from my mum because that's what she does. I don't expect anything in particular but she buys bits and pieces when she sees them and offered to buy our pram. It's not common in the UK to make a registry. We may have a shower but people will buy what they want, usually small ish gifts like clothing etc.

This is hard because on one hand I really love getting things not on the registry because then it is an actual surprise. With the registry I see everything that gets purchased and know what it is ahead of time. Although I certainly appreciate when I get a needed item off my registry I personally hate buying things off of a registry usually. In the past when I buy baby shampoo, nail clippers, bottles, pacifiers, sleep sacks, bottle drying racks, sound machines etc for friends and put them in a gift bag I feel like the gift is such a disappointment and boring. A few times I have gone off registry and picked out really expensive and well made pajamas from small boutiques and super beautiful books, etc I have much more fun giving the gift and the person receiving it has a much better reaction. So I see both sides of it. Hang in there.

I feel that way no one has even tried from my family I'm 8.5months prego and nothing I've been buying everything and only one old friend 2.5 hours away drove to me and took me to target for 6 of my important items... I'm blessed to be able to buy but hurt because I have never not given anyone of my family or friends no gifts for their baby shower and I would always include a gift cart to there fave spot to eat or drink so they can enjoy baby time home or take snacks with them to hospital...

I know how you feel. I just found out that you can return most unwanted items without a receipt to places like Target or Walmart. Then you can buy things that you actually need/want. I wish I had known that before I took tags off of stuff I received at my first shower. I only got 2 items off my registry out of about a dozen people. I know you’re not ungrateful because I’m not either, I’m very grateful for everything we’ve gotten, I would’ve just preferred to get items I took the time to research and select for specific reasons. I have one more shower coming up in 2 weeks, and so far no one has marked anything off my registry as purchased. This time I will be returning stuff that I didn’t register for so I can use the money for stuff we really need!

I was told it doesn’t matter - Target and Walmart will generally do returns or exchanges without the receipt, especially Walmart!

Good to know. Only issue is that I don’t have a lot of gift receipts so I don’t know where items were purchased 😕

I hear ya. 30 weeks pregnant and there have been 5 purchases on ours. 3 of which we bought. We are first time parents and while we work incredibly hard, finances are really tight. I forsee us buying everything.. so at least we have 2 1/2 months 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s just sad because my husbands side of the family is just not thoughtful at all and won’t do anything. It’ll all work out... somehow!

I did a registry and people bought from it but not off of it I guess so I couldn't see what was bought. So I still got things I had asked for but I couldn't tell from the registry itself.

I only made a registry on Target because I didn't have the patience to make multiple ones and also wanted everything on one list to make it easy on myself & anyone who wanted to buy something.
