Got my period a week early

I’ve been on the pill for about a year now and I take it religiously. I’m not supposed to get my period until next Thursday, but I had awesome sex with my boyfriend today and now I have my period. Is this normal or is this considered breakthrough meaning my birth-control isn’t working? I looked on the Internet but can’t anything. Anyone ever have the same problem?
