Castor Oil Experiences?

Tell me about your experience with castor oil. Not likely something I'll do, but I'm beginning to play around with the idea.

Super dangerousness doctors advise against it. Go walk and baby will come when ready.

Nurse here. Patients that do this have major diarrhea during delivery. A huge embarrassing mess.

I've done it 4 times. Gave me cramps and diarrhea but never put me into labor😔it worked for several people I know but I guess their babies were ready. People will scare you and say "don't do it! Baby will poop and ingest it" yes it COULD happen. I did so much research on that and there's no proof that castor oil actually caused it, as a baby can ingest it anyway. Every pregnancy is different. If you feel confident about trying it than I say go for it. It's best when taken with orange juice tho. Really hides the taste best. And b sure to stay hydrated. I’ve heard it’s extremely dangerous if you’re using it to induce labor? If you’re using it in your hair to help it grow, it works! 😝

I would.never recommend it without medical professional OKing it. My midwife advised to try it when my waters had broken but labour hadn't started as my alternative would have been medical induction.  within an hour I had a normal poop and active labour kicked in. I pooped once more during labour and vomited twice but unsure if this was the castor oil or just general transition puking. It tasted disgusting and was worse coming up. I drank it in orange juice mixed.with almond butter which was part of a strange recipe that had champagne and apricot juice in in from my midwife.  the extra ingredients were to slow the absorption so it wouldn't cause diarrhea.  I was very hesitant to try but it was my last ditch effort and it worked, I had my beautiful home birth with no interventions.  but always follow the advice of a midwife or doctor!
