Beyond happy that Joshua John Christie Harkins arrived 22/10/17 at 14:34pm weighing 7lbs 2 😊
Bit of a rollercoaster delivery but he’s here healthy and happy!Â
Was booked into be sectioned at 2pm on 22/10 as I was 12 days overdue. Woke up during the night for the toilet as usual about 3am and went back to bed but had dull cramp for about 20 minutes at a time, didn’t think much of it and tried to sleep it off. Got up around 8am and had fresh bright red blood and a bit of a show! Phoned the maternity unit and they said that was all fine and to keep an eye out for contractions. Contractions started in my lower back and gradually picked up over the morning. By 11:30am I was contracting every 5 minutes and lasting around a minute so off to the hospital we go! 😊
I’m examined and told I’m 3cm, waters intact but having steady contractions. Given gas and air which helped ease the pain a bit and really helped control my breathing. I requested an epidural as the pain was getting pretty unbearable. Around 2pm I was moved to the labour suite and that’s when everything went a little bit crazy! Anaesthetists were both in theatre and couldn’t get hold of them, my contractions were getting really painful and quick and poor little Joshua’s heart rate dropped 😔 so between being spaced out from the gas and air I was told I was going down for an emergency ceseraen section under general anaesthetic. The last I remember is lots of people around me and the mask over my face! Scary stuff lol
Joshua was out within 8 minutes and given to daddy to hold 😊 I was in getting all stitched up and a catheter put in for about 40 minutes and when I woke up I was in recovery with Michael beside me giving Joshua his first feed 😊 So far he has been an absolute angel with no complications at all. Feeding great, had his first bath and is currently sound asleep next to me 😊
Cannot thank the staff here at the Princess Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, and for getting him out so quickly and safely. For a first time birth it didn’t go to plan but hey ho! He’s here and he’s perfect and I could not be more in love 💙💙
