what happens at infertility appointment

I made my first infertility appointment today. Can anyone tell me what you did at your first appointment like do they just talk to you or do they start running tests right away? I just booked mine for 11/14 but just realized I am supposed to start my period that Sunday before. I have been being a week or more late but if I do start do I need to reschedule the appointment or will they still see me?

The very first time, although we knew we needed ICSI, the Dr still order some tests for me he said that they need to check 5 things: Sperm count & quality (we already knew that was bad), my uterus, ovaries, hormones and if the tubes were ok, luckily I was the second day of my period so he did a vaginal ultrasound right then and determined that everything was ok and that checking the tubes wasn't necessary (sorry can't remember the name of that test) but suspected a thyroid issue and ordered blood work to confirm along with the hormonal panel, he was right I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (which can cause miscarriages when left untreated) and after a couple months on medication we started our first cycle, I'm now 19.6 weeks.

My first appointment was just a consultation to discuss our health and possible options depending on the outcome of testing.

First, my husband and I had to fill out a lengthy questionnaire prior to even seeing the doctor. At the first appt we went over our answers and discussed options. My doctor ordered me to have an HSG (hysteriosalpinogram) done as well as a SIS (saline sonogram). It took me a month to have them done bc you have to do them at certain points in your cycle. My husband had to have blood work done and a semen analysis. Then after all of the testing was done, we re-convened at another appt and discussed which option we would like to pursue. All of our testing came back normal except in the hsg, one of my tubes looked like it might be blocked. The choices were taking clomid and timing intercourse or trying IUI. We did two rounds of IUI where did Follistim shots and triggered ovulation but neither round was successful. Now we are moving on to IVF. Let me know if you have any questions!

They did blood work and and alter sound the 1st appointment I had as well as talking with the doctor. They want to know your history how long you've been trying what kind of problems you may run into and possible success rates. The doctor may pulmonary come up with a plan of treatment and such. And of course the look at your insurance and see what can or has to be done. For instance I had to do 3IU i's before I could move on to ivf.

Mine was just really them talking and trying to get medical history of me and my husband and also our families. Then blood work and then we made appointments for ultrasounds and hsg tests. We got orders to move (Military) right after all that so we had to continue out where we live but didn’t have to because I got pregnant but it unfortunately ended as a ectopic.

It will just depend on what day of your cycle your on. We just talked about options, statistics, and future treatments. Otspossible to have blood work done. I think it just depends on your clinic too
