dental and coconut oil

I have 2 big questions can someone please tell me how to help my Lucy. she has bad teeth as a dog its not terrible but what kind of treats should I do ? and can I give her coconut oil ? I just put it on her gums. she is 8 yrs old. its too much to get her teeth pulled out too.
