Went for my HSG today!! Not as bad as I thought it would be
The HSG was the last test I needed done before we could proceed with IVF. I have an appointment on Monday to follow up with my doctor and hopefully with my next period we can start IVF treatment!!
For those wondering about the HSG it’s the test they do to see if your uterus is a normal shape as well as to see if your Fallopian tubes are blocked. This is done using contrast dye and an X-ray.
They prescribed me doxycycline as prophylaxis prior to the procedure. That antibiotic is no joke haha I had the terrible side effects of stomach upset. This morning I opted to wait until after the test to take it so as not to be gross for the test.
When I got to the hospital I checked in then waited in a room full of other women until they called a group of us in to get changed into gowns. Then one by one they called us into the procedure room. When I got inside they had me lay on the table and positioned me then inserted the speculum, cleaned off my cervix and inserted a catheter inside and put the dye in. Within the next two minutes they were done. It was very uncomfortable but not as painful as I thought it would be. They told me my uterus and tubes looked normal and that I was free to go. As soon as I got up there was a gush of sticky fluid as the dye came rushing out. I ran to the bathroom to clean up and put myself back together.
Overall it wasn’t too bad. It was uncomfortable and a little awkward but very quick. Definitely a good idea to take some ibuprofen before hand, which I did and I think it’s why I wasn’t too uncomfortable afterwards.
Hope that this helps anyone who has to go through this test!!
