Bilateral inguinal hernia

Gi

My husband and I had noticed for a while that, whenever our baby had a melt down, she would get these two lumps above her vulva, which would then disappear when she stopped crying. We both thought this was normal, until we noticed that sometimes she only gets a lump on one side.

Anyway, asked the doctor, took a photo in (not something I'd usually keep on my phone, but we needed to ask!) and it turns out she has a bilateral inguinal hernia, and needs surgery to sew up the two holes ☹️

Apparently, it's rare in girls and quite common in boys. In 1% of girls, it can mean that they are actually intersex. Doctors ordered a scan to check for the presence of a Uterus - luckily everything is fine and developing well :)

Has anyone else's baby been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia? How was the surgery? Apparently, we'll have to stay in overnight, as under 6 months babies breathing can get super shallow. Any tips for caring for a baby after surgery?
