My birth story 10/6/17

Dana

I went in for an induction at 37 weeks 5 days due to gestational hypertension and symptoms of preeclampsia. I was already 3cm and 90% effaced. My plan was to have a natural birth like i did with my son (had no choice as i was crowning when I got to the hospital). I was hooked up to an iv of fluids and another of pitocin which they upped every half hour. The monitor showed contractions but i wasn’t feeling anything. A few hours later my dr checked me and I hadn’t progressed so he broke my water. A couple min later I went from feeling nothing to super intense painful contractions almost back to back. Went to the bathroom and found it slightly more tolerable to sit on the toilet versus lay on my back in the bed. I’m mad that I gave in so soon but I yelled out that I wanted the epidural. I had assumed I had a while to go since I was just at a 3. I’m mad i didn’t think to ask the nurse to check me first, though she should have, especially knowing how close together my contractions were. So they gave me the epidural and it only took on my left side (I think because of a previous back surgery I had). Right after it was in, the nurse checked me and I was at 10cm. I would have gone natural like I really wanted to if I knew how close I was! So I still felt everything on my right side which was really awkward but helpful. I pushed for about 5 min and out came my beautiful baby girl Emma Blake weighing 6lbs 7oz and 19.5 inches long at 3:43pm on 10/6/17. Was able to do skin to skin immediately for a while and they waited to measure her and clean her up until afterward. I was stuck in bed for awhile afterwards though because that pointless epidural decided to completely kick in after I was completely done giving birth. Still upset I didn’t have the natural birth i wanted but glad my baby girl is here and healthy. I’m exhausted but so in love 😍
