You can only get pregnant if you are fertile or nearing your ovulation day and had sex 4-5 days before your cycle. 
A regular 28-31 cycle length will most likely ovulate 14 days after the end of your menstrual period. 
Some people say you can ---I think it depends on how long your cycles are and whether you are ovulating or not. One needs to ovulate in order to get pregnant, not just anytime in your cycle.

Uh yeah you can only get pregnant is there is an egg present. That only happens when you ovulate. The problem arises if you have sex 3-4 days before or after after ovulation and obviously on the day you ovulate. During that window you can get pregnant. Any other time it is simply not possible.
