Tips on how to be a good mom?

I'm not a mom yet (working on it). My mom passed away when I was 9 so I won't have her when I do have a baby. I would love some tips on the things that you do to raise good kids and make sure you are the best mom. Thanks!!

I’m a strict mom to a certain degree. I try to have real honest conversations with my kids so they will understand what type of world they live in.
My kids are extremely happy but they are also aware more than other kids are about what’s going on in the country right now.
My oldest is 8 and can have a race conversation with you or talk about any other real world problems. He actually brings them up from time to time with other adults he meets (I know them personally) and he will sit and talk so you can further educate him or vice versa.
When your kids get to that age just be honest with them. On certain subjects it helps more than you realize.

The best thing my Mom did with us was to both say and show that we could talk to her about anything. As a child she was my parent first. Now that I'm an adult she's my best friend. I knew then and I know now that I can go to her with anything. All you can do is give kids the tools they need to make the right decisions. The drive your feeling to be a good Mom probably means you'll do whatever you can to be a good parent. Sounds to me your going in the right direction!
