The pill

Hey ladies, just started the pill 2 days ago (one that is a lower dose) for strictly acne and hormones , just wondering about the two different colours or pills or the inactive and active. How do they work exactly? I'm still quite confused. Also if I want to skip my period for one cycle for an upcoming holiday, what do I need to do?
