Big fear of being induced!! Didn’t think it would happen to me.
My due date was originally 30th October from ultrasound but my personal due date was the 28th as I track my periods and ovulation etc so I was going off this date. I have 4 other children and my labours were all super fast between 2-4 hours average so this one being my 5th we thought I might have baby at home if we didn’t make it in time😂😂 were in Australia so thing might happen differently wherever you are.
On Wednesday 25th my midwife did a stretch and sweep of my membrane and she said my cervix was still very long, soft and one finger tip open so not even 1cm. She was very surprised about this given it was my 5th baby, I went home a little discouraged and also crampy and was abit sore the next day. My partner and I had sex Wednesday & Thursday to see if it would help induce labour after the S&S; that was performed..
Friday the 27th Oct At 4:50am I woke up very uncomfortable in bed and couldn’t get back to sleep, i didn’t need to go to the toilet but I thought I’d get up and go anyway, a few steps out of my room and I felt a little trickle, I thought I was peeing my pants however I had no control over it & that’s when I realised it was my waters going, it was everywhere but then it stopped like it had run out...
Basically the delivery ward wanted me to come in to monitor baby and check me etc, went in and all was good - no contractions at all and no more fluid leaking. They advised if labour hadn’t started in 18hrs I needed to have antibiotics to prevent an infection. So at 11pm I was back at Hospital to spend the night and get the antibiotics as labour didn’t start by then... at 7am on Saturday 28th they induced me with pitocin as still no labour... my due date based on my LMP (always trust ur bodies ladies) I also had my previous son who’s now 2 on my due date not the ultrasound date :)
Anyway... after spending Friday night in the delivery suite I literally had no sleep and was woken every 5 minutes by women screaming giving birth, it was the worst night sleep I’d have my whole pregnancy and was surprised they kept me in there knowing I would need my energy for the birth... pitocin was started about 830-9am and no contractions for hours they were quite surprised as it was put at a higher amount to start with.. 11am came and contractions weren’t bad at all and they put it up higher again, within 30minutes it got super intense. By 12 I could tell I was going to give birth soon, the most uncomfortable thing was the CTG on my tummy that hurt so bad with each contraction, it had to be pretty tight to pick up the babies heart rate... 1250 and they were all getting prepared to put a cap on babies head as the ctg was no longer monitoring baby very well.... I felt baby coming down the canal and knew he was about to be born so I told my midwifes that the babies coming ( they didn’t really acknowledge what I said and kind of just went along with what they were doing) I then had more gas through the next contraction - as soon as that contraction wore off I had to yell to the midwifes and tell them that the next 1-2 contractions and the baby will be here, luckily my mother in law told them this has happened before (where I’ve told them when the babies coming) so the midwifes listened to her and asked me to open my legs so they can check... sure enough they were all like “ yep, babies crowning” running around like crazy getting everything ready..... I couldn’t push even tho I had the biggest urge to - so just allowed a minute for the head to come out completely and then with the next contraction which felt like forever to come I could push the rest of his body out... his head was huge and swollen and it took forever to slowly come out I had to really dig deep within myself and breath to prevent any tearing it was very hard but doable.
We didn’t know what we were having as we have 2 boys 2 girls already so another boys was amazing. He weighed 9pounds 4 ounce & I had zero tears. We’ve named him Kyro James Aloysius Anderson. He is 5 days old today and such a good baby. Although my induction was super quick and relatively easy going with no complications my body feels like it has been hit by a truck, I think it’s because we make such big babies and mixed with a quick labour’s it’s just too much for my body and takes a toll on me.
I have never experienced being induced before and I heard horror stories from friends and family, surprisingly my birth was not a horror story, i already have super fast and intense births anyway so the pitocin didn’t make them any worse then they already are. I did ask for pain relief however given my history the time frames of previous births they said they wouldn’t be able to give me anything. I had the gas to help but although I don’t think it does anything for the pain its more of a mental thing that helps you concentrate on your breathing and really focus on your task..
Hope you like reading my story and for all you women who are still pregnant waiting for baby he or she will be here in no time. I sat on this app days leading up to my birth and I felt so unhappy and depressed wondering when it would be my time & it happened when I least expected it. So good luck and keep positive ♥️♥️♥️
