that's not how labor works. it's not at a specific effacement or dilation.

I was 100 effaced from 37 weeks til 41 weeks. 1 cm dilated from 37 to 41 weeks.  they wanted to induce at 37 weeks.  I refused. went from 1 cm to 6 cm in less than an hour,  at 41 weeks -naturally. got epidural when I went in. total time on delivery bed- 2 hrs. an hour to deliver our daughter  and another 45 minutes to deliver placenta,  get stitched , and cleaned up.

It is not a sure ticket either way. You can be either or and not in labor you can be both and not in labor. I was 75% effaced and not even a finger tip dilated when my water broke with my first. My friend was 3cm dilated and 60% effaced for 2 weeks before she went into labor. There is not certainty in getting checked. My last pregnancy (second kid) I didn't get checked until in active labor and I will do the same thing with this one. It really just doesn't tell moms anything just causes them to think they're close when they might actually not be.
