is the nuchal scan at 12 weeks necessary!??

ok so my friend is 12 weeks pregnant and her obgyn told her that she will not get an ultrasound until the 20 week scan. 
i’m pregnant with my 3rd and I have always have the 12 week scan done.
is it normal for a doctor to by pass this screen??

I'm in Australia and most Drs ask for a 12 week and a 20 week. Mine also asked for an 8 week to get a due date. But still do the 12 week for the nuchal measurements. So, seems normal here!

It just depends on the practice. I didnt get my 12 week scan either because we arent considered “high risk” (family history or age when the baby is born). My first and only ultrasound will be at 20 weeks also.

I was asked if I wanted to do the first trimester screening testing which is blood and ultrasound; in 30 and overweight but it’s standard practice in Ontario to be asked; you can deny if you want though it’s not mandatory. If you feel like it’s a necessary test then tell your doctor you want it.

Some DR’s usually won’t suggest it unless your over 35 or have health issues. My DR likes to give me options on what I wanna do so she asked me if I wanted to do it even though I’m only 25 & have no health issues. She cares about what I want. It’s necessary if you feel it is. Some people wanna know if their child has Down syndrome to prepare for raising their child & some people dont

I didn't get my 12 week scan as I was late for my first appointment due to moving to new place and getting appointments. doc said its just fine and did a blood test at 12 weeks and now did quad test at 16 weeks.. waiting for the results. I will have the anatomy scan at 20 weeks for sure
