Was it stupid to write him?

So during fall break I was seeing this guy and we have several mutual friends. One of those friends mentioned to him that I want a relationship which isn't true, but he broke it off after that. So yesterday evening after a few drinks and dancing my best friend and I wrote him saying "look I don't need a relationship but I if you want to continue what we had before and are just worried about hurting me, that's stupid, on the other hand if you just don't want to see me again that's fine to but please say that to me directly "

Was that stupid or was it justified to want an answer?
