I quit breastfeeding...I want to start it back. Help or advice?

Susanna

I've had a very difficult time with feeding my baby..not because she won't eat, but because we just haven't found which method works for us. When she was first born, they put her to my breast and latched right away. Then, they informed me she had low blood sugar and would need to formula feed to insure she was getting enough.

Once it seemed she was OK to breastfeed again, I started pumping because she wouldn't latch well anymore. I had an amazing supply from the very beginning. I was making anywhere from 13-17oz every pumping session every 3 hours. Around when she was a month old is when I started getting lazy. Somehow I was down to only pumping once in 24 hours. I'm honestly surprised I didn't get an infection. I took all the milk I had saved in the freezer for granted...I thought it would last a lot longer than it did.

When my daughter was a little over a month, she was admitted to the hospital and that's when I kind of gave up. I used the last of my saved breast milk, and when I was home I had to switch to formula because I was out, and I was only making about 3oz a day.

She is now 2 months and I hate formula feeding. It just doesn't seem right for us..I want her to have breast milk.

On the other hand, I hate pumping. I hated having to do it every 3 hours which is kind of why I gave up. I want to just breastfeed and pump if needed.

Question is, can I even start back? It's been a month. Do I need to start back by pumping? Will I get an infection? Will my supply go back? I know I need to talk to a consultant, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any similar stories that could help me out. Thanks!
