relationship help!!

so I've know this guy pretty much my whole life. and he recently broke up with his girlfriend of three years. they were broken up for about two months when we had sex. he's told me he's loved me but won't tell people we're dating or even talking. I think he's still hung up on his ex. do I drop him until he's fully over her?? or give it time ?
