Breastfeeding at Night?

Question

So today I was told that suddenly I should not be breastfeeding at all throughout the night. From when my baby goes to bed until he wakes up in the morning, he should have no feeds?
He is 9 months old and has 5 teeth, but we usually breastfeed to sleep. I feel terrible to suddenly change that completely! Won’t my boy get really confused? I feel so bad when I know it is what he wants but I’ve been told not to give him it.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Does anyone still breastfeed their older baby during the night?
I really need some advise, I feel really awful, and I love the night time cuddles.

That’s a load of crap. Sorry. My daughter breastfed through the night until she was almost 2. Then we weaned. She now sleeps through the night like a champ. If you think about it, even though he may not need that nighttime nutrition, he may wake up wanting comfort, may be thirsty, or he legit could be hungry...especially if he is growing. Keep comforting that little babe and you listen to your own mommy instincts. When YOU feel you need to make a change, then go for it. Don’t let anybody instill self doubt in you. You are the mamma and you know your baby best. Sending you  good vibes!

There's no reason to stop night time feedings if you're both still okay with them. From a technical standpoint, that don't HAVE to nurse at night at that age, but there's no reason they shouldn't if they want to and you're happy to oblige. My son is 14 months and only stopped night nursing in the last month. Don't let anyone else tell you what is best for your family or what your baby should/shouldnt be doing (aside from your doctor and even that has its limits.)

lol. Next time someone asks you, tell them to cite their reputable and scientifically backed up sources. That ends that conversation very easily.

If this routine works for you and your son, continue it. I still breastfeed my 18 month old daughter before bed. She dropped nursing through the night (as in me waking up to go in her room) around 9-11 months old. I just followed her lead. She now nurses briefly prior to bedtime and sleeps for 12 hours. I’ve also been told to not breastfeed her before bed because it will “ruin her teeth” (which p.s. isn’t accurate information). If your current routine is working for you and your son and you are BOTH happy, keep doing you girl!!

My baby's pediatrician told us to stop at his 9 month appointment. I ignored him because I don't want to mess with my milk supply. Also, I truly feel like my son is hungry because I've tried putting him back to sleep without nursing him and he wakes up shortly after if I don't nurse him. My son only drink 2-3 ounces at a time when he has a bottle, so I'm assuming he isn't drinking much more than that when I breastfeed him. I can't imagine that would keep him full through the night. And yes, he eats solids, but he doesn't eat that much yet.

I still feed my breastfed baby through out the night at 11 Months. My doctor told me to stop might feeds at around 6 Months, but I’d rather feed on demand.

My kid is almost a year and still eats 1-2 times at night. I know it is for comfort at this point, so am trying to wean her off and get her sleeping through the night. Some nights are more successful than others, especially since she is teething, but she has finally learned how to fall asleep on her own and doesnt NEED the boob to fall asleep. You are the parent, you know your kid best and what he needs and can handle.
