what are your thoughts and experiences using the iud? I'm thinking about using it as my first form of birth control.

I have Kyleena and it’s awesome for me. I’d recommend talking to your gyno about them! I love that I don’t have to worry about whether I took my pill on time a week ago, etc. Plus I like not having periods lol

I just got the skyla about a week and a half ago. Getting it placed was like the worst cramp ever only sharper than a normal cramp would feel. But after that, you don’t feel it. Maybe for the first day you’ll feel light cramping but that’s it. It’s a localized form of birth control compared to being systemic like the implant, pill, and most other forms, making it be a good option for people with a history of stroke and heart attacks and stuff in their family. It’s a very safe form and all you’d really have to do usually is use condoms to protect yourself and your partner from STD/STIs. Its not a great option for controlling/lightening your cycle like the pill would do, but it does give the chance of having no period

I had the hormonal IUD the mirena once.
I literally had it in for over a week and was in excruciating pain when it Starting shooting down my legs and I couldn’t move I went to the hospital and got it removed. I think it was the location and my endometriosis which made it pain but when it was shooting down my legs it freaked me out!! Overall obviously very negative... I would try it again after I’ve had a baby my gyno said women react better then

I actually just got it and personally had bad experience getting it done because my cervix is ling and small so it took like 30 min instead of like 10 and hurt so so much but I honestly would prefer it than any other form of birth control. It's easy, you don't have to think about it for a couple years and you don't feel it at all after. I totally recommend it. Hopfully you have a better experience gurly!

I have paragard cuz I’m sensitive to hormones and it’s good, but I’ve had it a year and my period is still irregular.

I had the skyla and I honestly loved it. It wasn’t much fun getting it placed. Getting it removed was a breeze though! I liked it because I didn’t have to worry about anything. No remembering to take the pill, going to the doctor for a shot. It’s easy peasy.
