Which would you prefer in your house?

My husband and I are renovating our house and can't decide what we want for flooring in the bedrooms. Which option would you choose? (Answers were too long to put in the poll)
1) Hardwood throughout hallway, stairs and bedrooms
2) Hardwood in hallways and stairs, carpet in the bedrooms

3) carpet in the halls, stairway and bedrooms

as someone who has hardwood in the hallways, living room, kitchen and dining room, I would say put carpet in the bedroom. It is such a hassle to keep my floors clean that I can imagine how horrible and be having hardwood floors in the bedrooms as well.

We just moved to a house with no carpet. We noticed we do have to sweep and mop more often than we vacuumed at the old house which had mostly carpet (but we do have cats dogs and kids). For those saying hardwood floors are dirtier...carpets get just as dirty...they just keep the dirt hanging around. Yuck. A quick sweep daily and swiffer after muddy puppy paws is so much easier and more sanitary that carpet (esp if someone in your family gets allergies). Area rugs are awesome. Puppy training was easier.

Hardwood in bedrooms isn't fun. I had it in my parents home and you always end up with cold feet. I LOVE carpet in the bedroom.

From someone in the building and real estate trade I would recommend hardwood throughout. It will be a great resale feature.

Hardwood! But get large area rugs/runners for around/under the bed!

I like hardwood because of the resale value and it doesn't have to be replaced nearly as often. When kids or animals have accidents it's a simple clean up and doesn't require a shampooer. I'm switching my whole house to ceramic tile this summer and it will add $10,000 to my house resale.
