Twin to Twin Transfusion- my story so far and PSA!

Danielle

Hey all,

21w3d with mo/di girls.

Just here to say that my world came crashing down yesterday when I went to my MFM for our 21 week fetal echocardiograms. I found out that we were stage 1, intermittent stage 2 TTTS and borderline sIUGR. Twin A had 10.4 of fluid, and Twin B hardly had enough to even fill her bladder. It crushed my heart to see Twin B laying there with the membrane just laying flat against her body, and her weighing in at 100 g less than Twin A. I’ve just gotten the laser surgery to burn the shared connections in the placenta, and so far we’re all ok. Tomorrow will hold a better idea of what is ahead, and a week from now will be even more telling. It’s a 6 week recovery and if we can just get through the next 6 weeks, our babies have a solid chance at life.

What I want you all to know is that TTTS happens fast and it can happen with or without symptoms. PLEASE call your doctor if you’re experience things like I was- shortness of breath, sudden growth of your belly, and inability to get comfortable. For 4 days before the diagnosis this all set in on me, and my doctor considered me symptomatic saying that’s an indication to him that the TTTS would get worse if left untreated. So please ladies, if something doesn’t feel right, or if things feel like they’re changing too quickly, call your doctor! The sooner it’s caught the better and even though not everyone gets symptoms like me, just please pay attention to your bodies.

Good luck ladies 🤞
