Can yoga help weight loss?
Hi guys. Story time: I used to dance, a lot. Like 10 hours a week. Then I quit about 2 years ago (I don't want to get into why), AND I got started on mood stabilizers (I have a couple mental illnesses, I take other meds too, but these are the worst), and over the pst two years I have gained SO MUCH weight. I know part of it was the lifestyle change, I hardly exercised at all for a year or year and a half, but I also drastically reduced the amount of food I was eating. I know that's not enough, but still. But a lot of it has been the meds. We've tried nearly every medicine in that category, but all of them have weight gain as a side effect, and on all of them, I've gained a lot of weight. However, I've now started doing yoga one to three times a week, as well as therapeutic horseback riding once a week. I know the horseback riding burns calories, especially as I move on to more difficult stuff (I was a complete beginner when I started in August), but I can only do it that one time a week, as I don't have my own horse, so I'm really relying on the yoga to be able to lose weight (or even stay the same weight, honestly; but I hate the thought of staying as big as I am now). I know running and cardio are good for weight loss, but I have exercise-induced asthma (aka when I do aerobic exercise, I CANNOT BREATHE), so I'm reallyyyy hoping I'll be able to lose weight with yoga. Do you guys think it's possible? Have there been people who lost weight with yoga alone?
