Who was there for the birth and after?

Question

I’m having a little situation with my OH’s family. I love them all but they are across the country and want to be there for the birth of our son. This would mean staying at our house afterward   I want it to be him and I with my mom to help afterward. I don’t want to feel like I’m hosting in the days after I give birth. Which, regardless of what they say, is how I would feel. This will be my first and i know I will need a period of adjustment. Am i being selfish?

I would tell them you don’t to host guests until 7-10 days after

A million times: NO YOU ARE NOT SELFISH. Stick to your guns. I felt the same way, and I didn't even have extended family staying with me, they only visited here and there, and even that felt like too much. It just kept getting in the way of nursing, appointments, and plus I was SO. EXHAUSTED. Not to mention having a pretty bad case of the baby blues. I was in zero shape for entertaining. I would recommend saying no to company for 2 weeks, I didn't start to feel even remotely ok until then. You need to heal, establish a bond and rhythm with your new baby FAR MORE than any outsider needs to come visit just to see their cuteness.

Do what's best for you. Everyone under the sun descended on my house after my daughter was born. I wish I had put my foot down about it. I ended up making a scene because no one roof hand me my baby except when she was screaming hungry and the minute she was happy again everyone else had her.  Feel free to put your foot down. You need that time and that rest. Don't be me
