Im I over feeding?

Question

No one has actually Told me My Milk supply is low. But At the hospital they supplemented With formula because baby was still hungry . He’s Now 5 Weeks Old And Im still stuck Supplementing But I Breastfeed And Then Give Him 2 ozBottle But Even After That He’s Still Fussy & Sucking His Hand . Im worried that I might be over feeding Him. I feel like Why should I breast feed if hes never satisfy. I Have Given Him at least 4oz of formula after breastfeeding and I feel like thats what a regular Only formula fed baby should be drinking . I Would Love to stop Supplementing but I Can’t He’s ALWAYS hungry & I Could Have Him On My Breast An Hour Each Breast And Nope He’s Still Hungry . My nipples hurt😕😕 I Havent Got enough sleep . What Should I Do? I don’t want to give up on breastfeeding. Is My Milk Supply Low? I Only pump 1oz from both breast.

Yeah well I only ever breastfed and I’m telling you; they DO  breastfeed for like 30 mins, take a 30 minute nap and then feed for 30 mins again. Rinse and repeat. Consider jumping off a cliff. Sleep for 10 mins, breastfeed again lol 5 weeks is the peak of their hunger. Just take the bottle away and breastfeed ON DEMAND until he is either happy with breastfeeding, or he stops gaining weight and then you’ll know he’s not getting enough. But I stress, if you’ve been supplement feeding for the past 5 weeks you can NOT Space out breastfeeds now. You will never make enough milk without feeding on demand from now on if you cut out formula.

5 weeks was a terrible age. My daughter was always hungry too. Even if your not producing enough by yourself, (which you might be able to fix with the advice from everyone else) every little bit of breast milk you give your baby right now is chock full of antibodies that will help keep your baby from getting sick. Formula can't supply that. You're doing awesome, and it gets better.

If you keep supplementing, your body won’t know it needs to be producing that extra milk, and it’s around this time your body is getting used to the supply and demand. Let baby nurse! Some days will feel like baby isn’t off the boob. It’s normal! Especially so early. Obviously if they’re constantly fussy and upset then look into it a little more. But give it a bit of time. Have a “nurse in” and just spend a few days on the couch, skin to skin, and your body will readjust to extra amount baby needs, without supplementing. Good luck Mama 💗

Are you sure he’s stifle hungry and not just using you as a pacifier? That happens sometimes too. The hand sucking is normal, they do it to explore their world. But I would try a pacifier when he’s done eating to see if all he wants to do is suck on something.
