Experiences w/ C-sections under General Anesthesia?

This is my first baby and I have to deliver via c-section while under general anesthesia. I have had several trechea reconstructive surgeries as well as Chiari Malformation Type 1 so my only option is c-section under general anesthesia. Has anyone else delivered like this? If so, what was the whole experience like?

Unfortunately I have. I had a crash c section due to cord prolapse. There was no time for epidural. It happened really fast. Basically I remember them putting oxygen mask on me and then putting something in my IV said it would burn it did for a second then I must have been out. Woke up in recovery room, very sleepy and out of it. However I still managed to do skin to skin with my daughter and breastfeed her! I had a bit of sore throat from the tube they put down your throat and I was kind of out of it for a day. Also since I wasn't numb I woke up in a lot of pain! Like shaking and screaming. They ending up using ultrasound and injecting something into my stomach to numb it. Helped a lot! I would maybe ask about pain management since you won't be numb form the waste down like with an epidural.

I just had a c section on 12/2 after 38hrs of active labor and my son not dropping into the birth canal. I was put under general due to the spinal and epidural not working. The doctor spent an hr trying to get the spinal in and finally my doctor called it because I was at my limit of pain and energy after that. My experience with general was amazing! The dr and nurses let my husband hold me for a second cause I was crying (no idea why), and then they talked to me during the prepping and the anesthesiologist guided me through when I would start to feel it kicking in. My son was born perfectly healthy at 1243pm, was in my husband’s arms doing skin to skin by 1250pm! I woke up to the nurses telling me I was mama to a beautiful baby boy and my hubby brought him in a few minutes later and my son looked for me right away and latched like a champ! I have had a textbook healthy recovery so far (almost 2wks pp) and had an amazing delivery under general so you can have a positive experience!!!

I delivered my first baby that way. I had appendicitis and had to have surgery to remove that, and then the baby didn’t respond well to the anesthesia. So, I woke up as they were rolling me into the surgical room to deliver my baby unexpectedly at 33 weeks my doctor explained everything calmly (it was a intense situation but they didn’t let me know that) and they put me right back under. I woke up four hours later and met my baby after I woke up. It wasn’t what I planned but it was to save his life. Everything was ok and he was taken straight to the NICU. Obviously healing up was different for me because I had surgical incisions all over my stomach and then my c-section incision. It was painful, but manageable. I was way more focused on my boy so I don’t remember the pain as much. I’m sure you will be perfectly fine and are in good hands with the doctors! My doctor was incredible and I was very taken care of. Unplanned, but wouldn’t have it any other way! The only thing I missed was his first moments of life... I didn’t get to hear his first cry. But my husband was right by his side minutes after birth and was there for him, so that’s comforting!

Reading the previous 2 stories it kind of seems that cs via ga is very rare and only in emergencies and unusual situations- but yours will be different. You already know that you’ll have a GA so you can prepare for it.
Mine is a horror story so don’t really want to share too much. I was induced at 42 weeks couldn’t push my 10 pound baby out , he was too high up so needed a CS. Because the anaesthetist didn’t put my epidural in correctly and despite asking they did not resite it I ended up with a GA WITHOUT MY CONSENT!
It was all rushed and I had no idea what’s going to happen
Woke up in painn throw up...
Basically make sure u knwo whats going to happen
Ask for pain management after u wake up

I delivered my son under GA via c-section because of cord prolapse as well. And honestly the whole situation was traumatic because it was an emergency, but it really wasn’t that bad. They got me situated, talked me through it, put a mask on my face and told me I’d be going to see very shortly and was out. I woke up on my way to the recovery room, I remember asking if my son was okay and how my husband was doing. My husband did skin to skin once the pediatrician was done checking my son (completely unrelated to the c-section, they thought my son had a heart defect so the pediatrician needed to be present when my son was born) and they met me in the recovery room and my midwife put my son on me and he latched right away. I FaceTimed my family and everything is a little foggy but I remember most of it.

I agree with the comments at least you'll know mines was a terrible terrible experience that as someone already said I do not want to go into details to freak you out. I had an emergency c section with GA because it was necessary to save my daughters and my life. You'll be more prepared and relaxed and also your family will know you're under GA. My family didn't see me until about 5 hours later and had no clue I was put under GA (they tried putting an epidural before they rushed me so everyone thought that's how I gave birth) therefore everyone was confused when I was soo out of it and couldn't even talk because of the tubes that had been in my throat. Good luck momma you got this!!
