My MIL was very emotionally abusive to my husband and no one in the entire family, including him, respects her; it doesn't have any effect on how he treats me. It really just does depend.

So my ex treated his mom like complete shit. Called her by her first name, yelled at her in front of people called her names, and stole from her. Well most of our arguments were because he was sooo disrespectful, but shit he didn’t respect the woman that birthed him... idk why I thought he’d be able to show me and my mom respect! Well I dropped his ass and my new guy is amazing. And the one thing I do love about him is him and his moms relationship. They talk everyday, he goes to her when he’s having problems, he values her opinion. He’s literally sooo amazing to me. It’s a difference. But I’m not saying that’s always the case! It’s just mine.

I definitely have seen a correlation in how the quality of the relationship with a mans mother impacts them. And I absolutely think you can see what kind of SO he will be with how he responds to his mother. Those dynamics are telling.

It's totally situational in my opinion. If the mother was abusive, neglectful, an addict, not loving, etc. I wouldn't expect the man to respect her

Don't think it's how he will treat you unless he is really disrespectful to her for no reason. My husband mom had him when she was 15 and never took care of him when he was around 2 his grandparents went get him and never brought him back witch she never asked for him back and would leave him in the same diaper for a whole day and hardly feed him so he has no respect for her and never has he hardly even talks to her except for holidays when he has to see her and I don't think he treats me any way because of it.
