Will you let your teenager ride in a car with their other friends?

I’m currently witnessing a Facebook dispute between a group of moms over letting their kids be passengers in other kids’ cars after a wreck in our area took the lives of 3 teenagers except for the one teenager who was driving. Many are very heated at the suggestion and say that no teenager should be trusted to take out a friend in their car but others are telling them to chill and that it’s fine.

Will you let your child ride in a car with their friends as long as certain requirements are met (experience, license, insurance, etc) or not in any case at all?
Would the type of car affect your decision? (I had a friend in high school who tried to take me out in her 1998 Ford that didn’t have any side mirrors or a rear view mirror and I answered for myself that time). 
  
Would the age of the friend affect your decision, or are you uncomfortable with any teenager regardless of age driving your child around?
Would the total number of people in the car affect your decision?

I was only allowed to ride around with one friend when I was a teenager. she had been my bff since we were 10 and she was the only one my parents trusted me with haha. I don't want to be a control freak but I also don't think young teens need to be getting in a bunch of different cars. idk. I think it just depends on the tenn/situation.

Yes, i’d let them. We’d talk about basic safety issues (e.g., call me or a Lyft instead of getting in the car with a drunk driver).

I don’t have kids yet, so I’m not sure what I will do when I’m in that position in my life. However, I will say, my mother and father both taught me about not getting in cars with drunk drivers, or someone who is too tired, under any kind of influence, etc. and I’m not saying every teen would do it. But when I was 14 I had my first boyfriend and we were supposed to go to a football game at my school. Instead, he stopped by a friends house and got drunk before we went. He swore he was fine to drive and even though my parents taught me to always call them, I didn’t. Sometimes you just don’t think to do that. And ofcourse, we wrecked. He fractured his neck, his car was completely totaled, and I was left with a broken rib, arm and hand. I obviously learned my lesson. But my point is, it’s better to be safe than sorry. I think teens should be allowed to go out and have fun but I will monitor where my child goes, who’s car, etc. to lessen the chances of a fatal car accident.

I don’t know I mean I’m all for letting kids have fun and go out safely, but there’s always a speed racer fast and furious dare devil teen who thinks they can control a car no matter what (sadly I was one of them smh not too proud of that). That’s what I would be scared of, oh and drunk driving. So I guess I’d have to know who my child will be riding with and of course make sure I educate him on being safe whether it’s drunk or reckless driving.

I think people should let kids be kids. I feel like if you don't ever let your teen go places or out with friends they will rebel. My daughter is only 2 so I haven't really been put in this situation yet. But I would definitely be asking lots of questions and making sure everything is safe.

I think the question is a little problematic for this group, since most people are closer to being teenagers than parents of teenagers. It's really easy to say "yes," when you were allowed to do it. I would guess that it's harder as a parent of a teen. 
As a teen, I did drive with my friends in the car. Sometimes friend's drove, but it was usually me because most of my friends didn't have cars.

There are certain requirements that need to be met before I'll allow my son in a car with a teen driver. None of my friends had cars until one friend did senior year so I never had to deal with this.

where I live I think you need to wait a year before you can drive other people around. That law makes sense so it would probably be fine as long as them or their friend has driven for that time. 
Otherwise, have fun dragging your kid around yourself.
