8wks pregnant. Gush of blood and quite a lot of blood but no miscarriage.

I'm 8 wks pregnant and yesterday as I was laying down watching tv I felt a huge gush of liquid on my underwear. I went t the bathroom and saw light pink stain followed by dripping red blood (like a period). No pain at all and no clotting.

I rang my ob who said it was common to bleed in pregnancy and to wait til morning to have an US. I couldn't wait all night so went to the ER. They had a look inside and saw old blood and a small clot which they removed. They also said my cervix wasn't open. They did an ultra sound and saw baby in the correct position and with a strong heartbeat (184 bmp). We even heard it for the first time.

Apparently the blood wasn't coming from the baby/cervix area and said it's common to bleed outside the cervix. I've had a little bit of really dark brown blood spotting today which I'm trying not to worry about. I have an ob appt in 2 weeks. Anyone else been through the same situation?
