Low platelets?

Question

Can anyone tell me about their experiences with low platelets in pregnancy? My blood tests a few weeks ago showed a low platelet count and my doctor has me going to a hospital to do an ultrasound and some more blood work. I'm really scared and worried because of all the research I've been doing, and I'd like to hear personal stories from women who have actually gone through this. Any info would be helpful.

I am currently 17w 3d and was diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) when I was 6w1d.  My count was at 27,000 the day before at my OB appt and got scheduled the next day to see a hematologist, and when they checked blood, again, it was at 25,000.  He started me on 60mg of prednisone with weekly checks to see if steroids helped.  My perinatologist gradually lowered dose to 20mg as blood count is doing good and is at 168,000 at last check-up.  Due to placenta accreta and previa, I have to keep taking steroids to make sure platelets are steady in case of emergency c-section/hysterectomy.  Baby is doing great and is even measuring ahead.
