Breast pumps????

Question

What should I get? I know I want a dual electric, but beyond that I'm pretty clueless. 
Also, my insurance will pay for a pump but not until after the baby is born...How long does it take to go through? Ideally I want to start pumping ASAP to increase my production and build a stockpile if I can before I go back to work. 
Help, I'm overwhelmed!!

Hi, Maternity RN here and Mom of a 2 year old. Any double pump will do just fine. I got an Ameda as my insurance allowed me to pick it up from the store. Most hospitals use Madela but Spectras are also a good buy  No need to start pumping until the baby is 2 weeks old. Unless there is a supply issue or a medical issue with the baby, lactation consultants recommend that you should wait about 2 weeks before pumping as you could increase your supply too much and risk engorgement or mastitis. You’ll be able to get enough for your little one after he/she/they(?) set how much you really need. Good luck. Hope it helped.

I just ordered the spectra s2 through insurance. It has really good reviews! I had to pay extra from the nicer Medela Breast pumps.. so I went with spectra.

My insurance gave me numbers to call for it and it was processed so quick got it in 3-4 days. You probably won’t have much to pump in beginning but after it comes you could start up.

I got medela through my insurance and they shipped it before my son was born.  I did it through babies R Us if I remember and they got it through my insurance.

I ordered the s2 through my insurance and bought the media battery pack to make it portable.

My insurance let me pick out a pump at any time during pregnancy, but they wouldn’t mail it until 30 days before my due date. That said, it took less than 48 hours to arrive once I hit that 30-day mark! My sister also recommended getting a cheap hand pump (got a $13 silicone one by Ashtonbee on Amazon) just in case I need to express a little bit before nursing to help baby latch. It’s easier to keep in a diaper bag or beside the bed than dealing with a full pump. However, baby isn’t due for 2 more weeks, so haven’t tried any of it yet!

I got mine right from the hospital. They asked if I was breastfeeding. I said yes- the doctor wrote a prescription and the lactation consultant brought it in for me. It was totally covered by insurance which was awesome. The only downside was I was not given an choices but I really like my Mendela pump so I can't complain!! I would check and see if the pump is available at your hospital as well. :)
