Breastfeeding while on pain medication?

I was given Oxycodone while I was in the hospital to manage the pain from my c-section and was told it’s totally safe for breastfeeding. Regardless of what the doctors told me, I didn’t feel comfortable breastfeeding while I was on narcotics, so I started to pump and dump. A week after I got home, PBS aired a series about a pain medication epidemic in the US, including the use of Oxycodone. I’m just curious what other c-section mamas did to manage the pain if you didn’t take any pain meds?
