Anyone's kids get cold sores?

I am completely paranoid. My sister in law had cold sores and was holding my 8 month old. He woke up this morning with a red spot on his lip. It could be a split lip from dryness because it's so dry here. But like I said I'm paranoid. What would it look like to start? I tried to get a picture. Unsuccessful.

I don’t really see it in the pictures, and unless she was sharing a drink or kissing baby on the lips it’s not likely that baby would have gotten anything from SIL.

I run a daycare in ny home and in one week had two kids come with cold sores... a few days later my son had a blister on his lip. I was hoping it was just from sucking on his lip (his new habit) but we room him to the doctor and she said it probably was a cold sore. He is also 8 months. she said normally she wouldn't do testing to find out for sure, but since the hospital messed up when he was 13 days old... He has to have his blood checked for infectious diseases anyway so she is checking him for the herpes simplex virus at the same time. I hope to have the results next week.  the good news is she said it's not a big deal unless the baby is under 3 mo the old.

I'm constantly freaking out. my son always has little bumps around his mouth but they often go away by the next morning

If you have any suspicion take your baby to the Dr. my son got it from his dad and it was the worst thing ever! He was in pain not eating and crying all day for almost a week! I was so angry at his dad. He knows but accidentally kissed his face. 😡

Just to add. My SIL is very aware of being careful with him with a cold sore. My husband gets them too, we are careful.
