Do you have in laws that you don't get along with or care for? How have they ruined your relationship? Is a mother in law that doesn't like you a deal breaker.

My SO’s mother is a cunt. My SO is nice enough to be her carer because of some mental health issues she has (shouldn’t use them as an excuse to be a cunt) and she treats him like shit and she’s always been a bit of a bitch to me. She treats my boyfriend like he’s a child. He’s 23. And she acts like a child. She also treats her dog better than she treats her own son. She can’t even toilet train her dog so the dog just pisses and shits inside and she doesn’t even care. She used to get my SO’s money from him when he was a teenager so she could get drugs and if he ever says no to her, she starts abusing him until he does/gives her what she wants. Soon she is going to rehab being she’s bored of her life. She’s addicted to travel sickness pills and she uses rent money to get them. She was also planning to make us take the dog when she leaves to rehab but that’s not fucking happening. She’s a fucking cow and expects me to cook for her every night because I cook for my man. That’s not how it works. She’s so selfish too. And she’s also telling my boyfriend he stinks when he doesn’t and she can’t fucking talk, she showers about once a month if we’re lucky. She fucking stinks when she’s in the car with us 🙄 
So long story short, I hate her and can’t wait to get away from her.

in laws can't ruin a relationship. you and your so are in charge of your exposure to/communication with them. if they are toxi, cut them out. plan and simple.
