Tips for safe co-sleeping?

My lo has a stuffy nose the past few days due to the change in season so he won’t sleep on his own. At all. Which means that I haven’t been sleeping. At all. I was holding him last night and we ended up falling asleep in my bed. We slept for over 5 hours straight and neither one of us moved the entire time. It was great. I feel really bad because they always tell you not to do it but I know people DO co-sleep so I was wondering about how to do it safely. Just until his nose clears up and he’ll sleep in his crib again

I have co slept with my son since he was a newborn (now 16 months) The biggest things are to make sure your mattress is firm, there are no pillows or blankets by his head and that there is something to keep him from rolling off the bed and you or your partner from rolling on him. When he was really little I slept in the middle of the bed with him on the outside edge. I had a mesh toddler side rail that kept him from rolling off. Now that he is completely mobile he wiggles himself in between my husband and I 😂 (it's a miracle we were actually able to get pregnant again!) I absolutely love co sleeping and will be doing with this next baby too!

No excess pillows or blankets and  protection from the edge of bed. We side-car co-sleep so her crib is pushed against our bed with the front panel removed (So it's kind of like a day bed). This way everyone has room but if she needs us we are just a roll away lol)

i have co- slept with both my girls from the very beginning. i hold my baby in my arm and have never had any problems. i dont move much when I sleep. you can also buy a co-sleeper if it makes you feel better.

There’s no safe bed sharing. Period. People do it because they can’t follow basic instructions and they’d rather take the easy route of putting their kids to sleep rather than teaching them to sleep on their own. Babies NEED that flat, firm surface so they can breathe properly. This is so important and I wish more moms understood this. The blankets and pillows aren’t the main concern. It’s the surface. Sleeping on soft surfaces can make it harder for babies to breathe and if your baby is already stuffed up, it’s just going to make it more challenging for him. That’s one of the big reasons why they tell you to never let your baby sleep in car seats or swings or rockers. It’s the same concept. It’s your call but you’re not making it easier on him by putting him in your bed.

No blankets or pillows near baby. Put an adult sized bed railing and have baby sleep between you and that not in between two people. Never let a baby sleep alone on an adult bed. Never bedshare if you’re exhausted, taken medication, alcohol or smoking. We have been bedsharing since she was a month old and now she’s a year and she sleeps in her crib until I go to bed then we bedshare.

I co sleep but not all the time, she will sleep in her crib too I usually only do it when she's sick or has just been extra fussy. She just sleeps so much longer when she's with me . Just have a really light blanket and make sure there's not a bunch of pillows or anything around. Make sure they aren't going to get to hot.  In a lot of places co sleeping is the norm , for some people it's abnormal to not sleep with your baby, it's wonderful for bonding :)  It's your child you do what you feel is right . The only thing I worry about is that my daughter will never want her own bed when she's older lol
