@Michelle I was told similar. they said its best to do ultrasound because of my weight. I totally understand honestly. Since I was a big woman before pregnancy, I already had a "30 week pregnant" belly. so if they were to measure via belly, I'd be measuring 15+ weeks ahead, of not more.In my case, I've had 3 ultrasounds since September. First one dated my pregnancy and 2 regulars since then. I also have a history of miscarriage, so my doctor is a bit more willing to do the scans.Even though it may sound excessive and expensive, having an ultrasound every 4 weeks is the best way to tell if your baby is growing correctly.
How does your doctor measure baby?
I’m 10 weeks now, and had my first appt last week with the gynecologist, as well as an ultrasound. The doctor explained that with overweight women, measuring the fetus can be difficult by measuring the woman’s belly, and that having an ultrasound each time is his recommendation. I’m not going to do that. It sounds unnecessary and expensive to me. I’m getting a second opinion anyways, but I wanted to hear experiences from other overweight pregnant mothers about how their doctors measured their pregnancies.
