When is it over?

When is the risk of SIDS over? I've heard different things, everything from eight months to two years or even six years, which is confusing to me since it says "infant". I'm a super worried mom who checks my son all the time and I just want to know when I can relax and not worry about it?

My ped has always told us between 2-4 months is the “peak”. Our little guy is about to be 3 months and shes asked us our transitioning plans to get him into his crib. We’re shooting to have him full time in his own room by 4 months per her recommendation.

It’s birth to one year, the highest risk being before 6 months old. 
After age one it’s referred to as SUDC (sudden unexplained death in childhood).  It’s relatively rare but it does exist.

I don't know about when it's over but it peaks between 4 and 6 months so the risk is much lower after then :)

The older the baby, the less the risk. I've never heard of SIDS when talking about a child over the age of 2... but once the baby is more mobile, is able to turn his head and roll over both ways, the risk drops a lot. I've still read that it's recommended not to give a pillow until age 2, and definitely no blankets before 12 months, but it's better to wait longer and just use a sleepsack until age 2.
