IUD Appointment vs Mother Nature

So i have a doctors appointment today to get a iud(inter-uterine device) and im on day 3 of my period so its still a crime scene down under, what should i do? If i go do i wear a tampon before and just have a pad for after the insertion?? Am i going to be dripping on the table? Can anyone with any type of knowledge or experience with this shed some light on the akward situation with me.
