bassinet???

Question

My first baby will be here in February. Im a little clueless at this whole baby thing but Im working on it... I got this portable bassinet hand me down from my aunt who just had her son a few months back and I was wondering if it is safe to put on the floor next to my bed or if I should just invest in a full size bassinet? It seems silly to me to spend $100 on a bassinet when they only use it for a short period of time but if its necessary then so be it... This is the bassinet I have

so I haven't had my baby yet, but we just bought a used bassinet and cleaned and scrubbed everything on it. so my problem is if it's on the floor next to the bed the blanket could fall into it, you could also trip over it if you are really tired. another thing is if you are so tired, bed down to pick up the baby while half asleep can be a little dangerous. you could miss grab the child and end up hurting it. this is all just where my brain goes to. with a regular sized bassinet, you need to stand up and doing that your waking yourself up so you can make sure your child is being properly tended to its really all just a preference. we got out gently used cute bassinet from a 2nd hand store for 30 bucks and it's cute. so if spending money on bassinet isn't something you want to do, you might try a second hand store, because let's face it, they are only in them for so long. ☺

It would be fine. The only thing from experience that I’d say against it is just that you might be pretty sore having to bend down to the floor. Depends on your labor though! I had a 2nd degree tear and could barely sit for two weeks. Bending down to get my baby was not an option. So that’s the only thing from experiencing I’d say could be a bad thing. Is there something large and sturdy you could put next to your bed to place it on?

it should be fine so long as there is nothing that could fall into it... for example; drapes, blankets, cups or other items from your bedside table. just make sure it's in a safe spot.... and so long as you don't have cats, dogs or other pets that could easily access the baby while you are sleeping....

I used a rock n play sleeper by Fisher Price. My son loved it and it is a little taller than that one. They range from around 50-100$ depending on the one you get. It also keeps the baby slightly propped up and cozy!

I bet you're not going to be wanting to lean alllllll the way down to the floor to put down/pick up baby after giving birth. If you get a pack and play instead of a basinette, you can use it for a much longer period of time, that it would be worth it financially. Pack and plays usually come with a newborn insert (so you don't have to lean over far) and then you can take that out down the line and baby can sleep and play in it.

I was given a similar bassinet (Summer co-sleeper) at my shower. Initially I did not think I would use it at all (I already had a BILY bassinet in my room for the early months and a beautiful crib), but when my little guy was cluster feeding and inconsolable his first nights home, I quickly found that for us it was easier to have him in that in the bed beside me. We continued to use it until a few days ago (he's five weeks old) as I felt he was getting too big and strong for it and was worried about him moving it. He now is sleeping in the bassinet in my room and has the occasional day-time nap in his crib in his room.

I had one of these. I used it in my bed with me so I could co-sleep and not worry about rolling over on her. My bed is small though, so didn't work for long. It was useful for keeping at grandmas house for naps so I didn't have to buy a second crib. I recommend just buying a crib or at least a mini crib, half sized? Better off in the long run. Baby will only use a bassinet for a few months.

You might want a full size one just for times where you want to just lean an arm in and comfort your baby. There have been plenty of night's that I am leaning in to pat her back or put my hand on her chest, it's nice to be able to do this while I am laying in bed!
