Thanksgiving Baby! *long*
I'm so excited it's my turn to share my story after reading everyone else's the past 9 months! Sorry this is long, I had a long induction process. On Tuesday 11/21 I went for my 37 week OB appointment excited to get my cervix checked to see where I was. They got a high blood pressure reading and had me lie down for 15 minutes and checked it again and it went down a little. She told me to come back and get it checked the next day. Wednesday comes along and I get another even higher blood pressure reading so she sends me to my hospital's OB triage to be monitered. They checked my blood and urine which were all fine but because of the blood pressure over the course of the few hours they were checking it, they decided to induce me! Called my husband at work and had him grab everything and come down. Got the pill put in my cervix for four hours to soften it and dilate it before getting a Foley balloon. At 1cm I got the balloon and holy Jesus it hurt so bad getting put in. It took nearly 20 minutes of this doctor's fist up my hooha! The relief when it was done was unimaginable. I'd say that was the worst part. They let the balloon chill for another few hours and by this time it's very late at night so my husband and I try and sleep. When I'm at 4cm they take it out and break my water and start pitocin. Now until this point I had been pretty crampy like severe mentural cramps but after the pitocin things changed! I did pretty well for a few hours and they didn't check my cervix again knowing it would take a while. I got my epidural and that was a breeze and i was feeling good! Still I tried to get sleep. Btw with the epidural they will empty your bladder for you with a catheter every few hours. That is interesting because you can hear yourself peeing in the little basin but you can't feel it. ANYWHO. around 3pm they check me and it's time to push! 50 minutes of pushing with some help with forceps my little William was born! Came out an even 7lbs 20inches which is amazing because the ultrasounds were sizing him around 8.5lbs. His blood sugars were super low and would not stay up so he had to be put on a glucose drip for the 2 recovery days. My hospital has a Bonding Program that allows mother's whose baby's are in the NICU to stay in a room for free while being formally discharged as a patient. As his sugars were regulating and we were getting excited about taking him home the poor guy developed jaundice and we had to stay another few days. Fast forward to now 11/28. He is off the lights over night and his billirubin will be checked in the morning and if all is well we can go home tomorrow!
