Viability scan?

Went in today. Am supposed to be 6 weeks but was measuring 5 weeks 4 days. Both gestational sac and yolk sac looked good. I go back in 2 weeks for a “viability scan” and now I’m scared. Right before leaving my doctor goes,” just letting you know miscarriages happen in 1 in 5 pregnancy and it’s nothing that is anyone’s fault or can be prevented.” Like wtf? Now I’m freaking out!

Their guess isn't always accurate! When I went based in my last period they put me at 12 weeks but I was only 9 weeks so don't worry! That was very mean of your doctor to say as you are leaving!

Maybe supplying ALL of the information would have been nice of your provider. Jeesh! I would have said, "The baby's heart starts beating at approximately 6 weeks. So there is a chance we won't see it if you are not yet 6 weeks. If we don't see it, that doesn't mean the baby isn't there. However, it can potentially also mean a pregnancy that isn't viable. If the pregnancy isn't viable, please understand that there isn't anything that you've done and nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage from happening. Stay positive and we will see you in two weeks." I'm crossing my fingers for you, lovely ❤️

At my first appointment I was 6w4d by my last period, by measured 6w1d - not a huge difference but I was so worried 😟 By my 8 week I was 8w2d and measured right on the money! Sometimes it’s just a little off. You also might have ovulated later. I think it all sounds good!

I measured 4 days off at my first scan. baby caught up by 9 weeks :)

I went in for two US before the viability one at 8 weeks because I had just had an ectopic. When I told people it was called a viability scan, they were super confused and found it off-putting. My doctor was also not super friendly or anything at those early scans, but once we saw the heartbeat at that scan, she’s been very upbeat and positive. I think they try to just be direct and precise about all of the possibilities, but it doesn’t help with that early anxiety. Hoping everything is great with your upcoming scan!

I can’t believe he scared you like that! It’s totally possible you ovulated late. All 3 of my pregnancies have been off! My current pregnancy was 2 and a half weeks off! We went in to what should have been our (almost) 8 weeks appointment and only saw a gestational sac, not even a yolk sac! Went back 2 weeks later to see a beautiful baby and fluttering heartbeat. I’m sorry that his first response was miscarriage. There are so many factors that going into having a baby and nothing is definite! Good luck! I’ll be praying for your ultrasound!

I haven’t had an U/S yet , but I go for my first on the 4th and I should be 8 weeks . I’m so scared & nervous .
