induction birth story
My baby girl is now 6 weeks old so i decided now will be the time to recap on my birth story. Just for reference im in Sydney Australia.
anyways so i went in on friday the 13th of October for my 39 week appointment. They found i had high blood pressure all of a sudden. I had to stay in all day for monitoring and blood tests etc. So i was feeling like ....
as i had a textbook pregnancy up until now. So i came in for monitoring every day for the next few days and suddenly the talks of induction started happening
They decided to induce me at 39weeks+6 days. i was not dialated at all so the day before i had a balloon catheter inserted into my cervix in order to mechanically dialate me so they could atleast break my waters the next day. All i can say is that balloon was very painful to put in and for a couple hours after. So the next day we go in at 6am as i had not started to have contractions. They admit me into the birth unit and by now im scared shitless
So they take the balloon out and break my water which felt like i literally peed myself but it didnt hurt . When they removed the balloon i was dialated to a 2. Next they get the IV oxytocin going and for the first hour im allgood contractions started coming every 8 or so minutes but wasn't bad. They started moving closer so i decided to get into the bath as i really wanted a water birth and to labour in the bath. I must say being in the bath was a god send ! it alleviated alot of the pain i was now experiencing and the contractions were now about 2 minutes apart we were about 2 hours into my induction so i started using the gas and my fiance had a hot shower on my back whilst still in the bath. I laboured like this for another 3 hours everything felt so peaceful despite the pain it was a nice environment.
They wanted to check me so i got out of the bath and damnnn the pain intensified. The midwife checked me and after 6 hours I WAS STILL AT 2CM DIALATED!!!!
so i asked for the epidural not because the pain was too unbearable but because i knew this was about to be a LONG DAY! .. and i was absolutely right. Got the epidural and a urinary catheter. 7 more hours went past and guess what i had not dialated a single centimeter more ! Baby was starting to get swelling ontop of her head from trying to come out. So the doctors came in and asked me around 7.30pm if i wanted to continue labouring till tomorrow morning or if i want to think about a c section.
considering i had now gone above and beyond the highest dose of oxytocin, hadn't dialated and was having inconsistent contractions since i got the epidural i dedcided on the c section. i didnt want to but i was feeling really sick from the whole day and i just knew i wouldnt be able to have her naturally.
they took me in to theatres and i was terrified i shook so much i pulled a muscle in my neck. Our little bundle of joy was born at 9.13pm weighing 3.2kg (7.1 pounds) and 47.5cm long. She is just perfect. Sorry for the long post ! Pictures below
this is her today at 6 weeks
